From Puerto Vallarta airport to “Los Muertos” pier
To reach Yelapa, you first need to travel to Puerto Vallarta, located on Mexico’s west coast. From there, you’ll need to arrange transportation to the village.
To reach Yelapa, head to the “Los Muertos” pier in Zona Romantica to take a water taxi, as there are no cars in Yelapa.
If you arrive too late to catch the last water taxi from Los Muertos, you can also reach Yelapa via Boca de Tomatlán.
The trip from the airport to Los Muertos Pier takes about 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
Traveling to Boca de Tomatlán takes approximately 60 minutes.
Taxis
Before leaving the airport, you will find booths marked TAXI. Purchase your taxi ticket there to ensure you pay the correct fare. Ask for a taxi to ZONE #2, Los Muertos Pier.
A taxi to Los Muertos Pier costs 600 pesos per cab (for 1 to 3 people). To Boca de Tomatlán, the fare ranges from 800 to 1,000 pesos per cab (for 1 to 3 people).
Alternatively, you can politely decline these offers and walk across the pedestrian overpass, just to the left after exiting the airport. Take another quick left to reach the overpass, where you’ll find a taxi stand on the other side of the road. These taxis are cheaper because they don’t pay airport fees. A ride to Los Muertos Pier costs around 350 pesos per cab, while a trip to Boca de Tomatlán is approximately 500 pesos.
Uber is also available in Puerto Vallarta, at cheaper rates and is a convenient, budget-friendly option!
Piers (Water-taxis)
There are daily departures from two convenient locations in Vallarta. Most tours set off from the vibrant Los Muertos Pier, right in the heart of downtown Puerto Vallarta’s charming Zona Romántica—perfect for starting your adventure!
Prefer a later start or a shorter boat ride? The second departure point, Boca de Tomatlán, is a great alternative. Located at the southernmost beach accessible by road, Boca is about a 60-minute drive from the airport. If you arrive late and miss the 5 pm boat from Los Muertos Pier, or simply wish to spend less time on the water, Boca is the perfect choice. Your driver will drop you off at the bottom of the hill—just turn right and head straight to the pier!
Tickets
For your convenience, you’ll find a friendly travel office just half a block down from the street leading to Los Muertos Pier. Stop by to get all the information you need about Yelapa and purchase your tickets—our team is there to help you plan your perfect getaway!
A friendly reminder: you’re on Mexico time now! Departure times can shift with the seasons and ‘scheduled’ water taxis might run on their own relaxed timeline. No need to worry—grab a drink at one of the beachfront cafés, soak in the vibrant atmosphere, and enjoy the moment. Your water taxi will arrive when it’s ready, and the adventure will be all the sweeter for it!
For your convenience, we can also arrange a private water taxi—available for late arrivals or simply for those who wish to enjoy an exclusive trip to our facilities. A small additional fee applies. Just let us know, and we’ll take care of everything!
Drop off point in Yelapa
In Yelapa, water taxis primarily drop off passengers at three main locations: the Main Beach, the Yelapa Town Pier and Playa Isabel. Occasionally, they may also stop at the private Lagunitas Pier. For your stay with us, you’ll want to disembark at Playa Isabel—just be ready to get your feet wet! Playa Isabel is a ‘wet landing,’ meaning you’ll step directly onto the sandy shore from the boat. It’s all part of the adventure!
El Jardin is nestled on ‘The Point,’ just a short 100-yard stroll to the right from Playa Isabel—about a 1-minute walk along the scenic path. If weather conditions prevent a drop-off at Playa Isabel, simply disembark at the Yelapa Town Pier. From there, it’s a pleasant 10 to 12-minute walk back to El Jardin, allowing you to soak in the beauty of the village along the way.
